El Chay the Living God — His active, dynamic presence sustaining all life and hope for every believer, Jeremiah 10:10

The Living God | The True and Eternal God

Introduction

Throughout Scripture, God is repeatedly called the Living God. Unlike idols made by human hands, the God of the Bible lives, speaks, acts, judges, saves, and reigns forever.

The prophet Jeremiah wrote:

“But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King.”

 Jeremiah 10:10 (ESV)

The title “Living God” reveals God's eternal existence, His active presence, and His power over all creation.

The Living God Is the True God

Scripture contrasts the Living God with idols.

Jeremiah declares:

“But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King.”

 Jeremiah 10:10 (ESV)

The Lord alone is God. He is not an image made by human hands but the eternal King who rules over all.

The Living God Speaks

When God revealed Himself to Israel at Mount Sinai, the people recognized His greatness.

They said:

“For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of fire as we have, and has still lived?”

 Deuteronomy 5:26 (ESV)

The Living God is not silent. He speaks and reveals His will to His people.

The Living God Gives Life

God is the source of life.

The psalmist wrote:

“For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.”

 Psalm 36:9 (ESV)

All life comes from God, and apart from Him there is no life.

The Living God Saves His People

When David faced Goliath, he trusted in the Living God.

David said:

“Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

 1 Samuel 17:26 (ESV)

David's confidence was not in his own strength but in the power of the Living God who delivers His people.

Jesus Christ Reveals the Living God

In the New Testament, Peter confessed concerning Jesus:

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

 Matthew 16:16 (ESV)

Jesus came from the Father and reveals the Living God to the world.

Through Him, believers receive eternal life.

Jesus said:

“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”

 John 17:3 (ESV)

Believers Trust in the Living God

The apostle Paul encouraged believers to place their hope in God.

“For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.”

 1 Timothy 4:10 (ESV)

The Living God remains faithful and worthy of trust.

Reflection

The title “Living God” reminds believers that God is not distant or inactive.

He lives forever, speaks through His Word, saves His people, and fulfills His promises.

Believers should ask themselves:

  • Is my hope in the Living God?
  • Am I listening to His Word?
  • Do I trust Him in every circumstance?
  • Am I following Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God?

Conclusion

The title “Living God” reveals God's eternal existence, His power, and His active presence among His people.

From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture testifies that the Lord alone is the true and Living God.

“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”

 Psalm 42:2 (ESV)

May believers continue to trust, worship, and follow the Living God who reigns forever.
