Among the names of God revealed in Scripture, “Yahweh” is one of the most significant. This is the name God revealed to Moses when He called him to lead Israel out of Egypt.
The name Yahweh reveals that God is eternal, living, and unchanging.
God is not like His creation. He has always existed and will always exist.
God Reveals His Name to Moses
When God appeared to Moses in the burning bush, Moses asked what he should say if the people of Israel asked for God's name.
“God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And he said, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: "I AM has sent me to you."’”

God also said:
“The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever.”

The name Yahweh points to God's eternal existence and His faithfulness to His covenant promises.
